2010 LEGO City Advent Calendar – Day 2 – David

Posted by admin on Thursday, 2 December, 2010

Tonight’s piece was a LEGO Man and several swords. Quickly I wanted to name this one David after my good friend David Poff. Dave (real life Dave) likes to collect swords or “sharp pointy objects” as he likes to call them. Dave and I are taking blacksmithing classes to learn the art and trade. Eventually one day we would like to be able to make swords and armor. I think this LEGO guy is about the closest resemblance to my friend.

I thought I would add a little bit of story line. David (LEGO Guy) decided to pick on Mr. Snowman this evening. But Mr. Snowman quickly picked up a sword and said “I see your sword and raise you a broom!” Will the snow fly as David takes down Frosty? Will Frosty snowball David? Who would win? Comment your best guess and we’ll choose the best. See ya tomorrow!

First Snow of Dec. 2009

Posted by Matt Kendrick on Saturday, 5 December, 2009

Usually close to this time of the year we get our first dose of snow. I’m excited. Yes, its tough to deal with sometime. But out our window it looks very peaceful. I’ve been waiting till the first snow to switch the snow plugin from leaves to snow. You may or may not be able to see the flakes. But it’s snowing on mattkendrick.com! Remember if it snows in December it’s not as worth eating. According to Lucy off the Peanuts (see quote below). Have a great snow day!

Patty: Try to catch snowflakes on your tongue. It’s fun.
Linus Van Pelt: Mmm. Needs sugar.
Lucy Van Pelt: It’s too early. I never eat December snowflakes. I always wait until January.
Linus Van Pelt: They sure look ripe to me.

Quotes from IMDB entry for Charlie Brown Christmas (1965).

Flash Games: Snow Day

Posted by Matt Kendrick on Sunday, 29 November, 2009

Winter/Holidays are closing in quickly. Thought I would throw up a winter/holiday theme flash game! Remember when you were a kid sitting by the radio waiting for your school to be called off for snow? I know I do. Sometimes I still listen for school closings. In this flash game you play a kid, longing for that perfect snow day! Your objective is to throw ice up into the clouds, to make them snow. Kinda like giving them a shot of turbo lax! Ok, bad reference. Unless you’ve seen Dumb and Dumber. But anyways. Very simple to play, hours to master. Move your character back and forth to aim, click/hold to set the power of your throw and release. Keep hitting clouds with ice and the snow will continue to fall. A meter on the side, tells you if you’re getting in danger of having to go school. Have fun!

System Administrator Appreciation Day

Posted by Matt Kendrick on Friday, 31 July, 2009

SysAdminDay
Happy System Administrator Appreciation Day! The one day a year that a computer system administrator (SA) gets the respect he or she deserves! Tell your system administrator how much you appreciate them! Give them a strong pat on the back. After all we’re humans too! We like to be told that we’re valuable. Besides who’s there to work long hours and weekends to insure your systems are always up and ready?

Our IT Department is celebrating today at lunch with a little pizza from Toni Roma’s! I’m sure we’ll all sit around and talk about the time the servers and phones went down, how we all pitched in and saved the day. Not to mention the weekends spent upgrading software and service packs on all the machines. Let’s not forget all the other stuff that can’t be done during the day! Endless miles of cabling at our locations and server rooms. Ah, the joy of being a System Administrator.

Usually celebrated the last Friday in July. You can learn more about one of my favorite geek holidays at http://www.sysadminday.com/! It’s right up there with Pi (3/14) day! They’re celebrating their tenth year. You can also see some funny pictures of system administrators in action, check out some cool gift ideas and more!
