Dave’s Forge Is Complete

Posted by admin on Wednesday, 9 November, 2011

The Forge Is Complete! My friend Dave has finally got all the pieces together for his home blacksmith forge. It all started when Dave got a hold of this thing that we believe to be an old feeder for livestock. We started thinking about how we could turn it into forge. We had everything pretty much planned out but a good air source. For months we debated different ideas. At our blacksmith class we used hand-crank bellows or blowers. The equipment we used was a blower made by a company called Champion Blower & Forge. However they’re antique and quite rare. Often these units can be found online for big bucks. Dave lucked out on this one at a local swap-met. It did require some work. The internals were locked up. Dave took some time and got it working again. After that the rest was plumbing and building a stand for the blower. Hopefully we’ll get to use it soon. All that’s left to do is to add coal!

Fliskits – Deuce’s Wild – First Flight

Posted by admin on Saturday, 5 November, 2011

Here’s my Deuce’s Wild w/ Candy Corn paint scheme on it’s first flight. I flew this at Mid-West Power 9 on two Quest C6-5s. Both motors lit and she flew great.

2011 Ohio Renaissance Festival – My Kilt!

Posted by admin on Friday, 14 October, 2011

Here’s a quick picture of me at the 2011 Ohio Renaissance Festival on Highland Games Weekend. This lovely photo was take by our good friend Shawna of Shawna Dorris Photography. As you can see I’m dressed in a kilt! I found this neat kilt at a great place online called Stillwater Kilts. This is Black Watch Tartan Thrifty-Kilt model priced at just $29.95. I thought it was very reasonably priced. Especially since I don’t go around wearing kilts on a daily bases. The quality is excellent made from nice washer friendly materials. The large Velcro straps ensure that this kilt isn’t falling down. It is very comfortable! No I didn’t go full commando. It was too cold for a kilt as it was. I also purchased the nice belt and sporran from Stillwater as well. If you’re in the market for a affordable high quality kilt don’t hesitate to take a look at Stillwater Kilts.

Meet Big Betty

Posted by admin on Wednesday, 20 July, 2011

Big Betty

Just recently got back into flying model rockets. Earlier this month I put together my first Quest brand rocket. This kit is called Big Betty. She is a clone of the popular Estes Big Bertha minus one fin and a slightly different fin design. At the last Bluegrass Rocketry Society club launch I flew Big Betty four times. All four times were using Quest C6-5 motors with their lovely Q2G2 igniters. Needless to say I’m a fan of Quest now. Don’t worry, it doesn’t mean I don’t love Estes products! Matter of fact, I’m working on another Estes kit at the moment. More on that later. Till next time, enjoy this view of Big Betty. ;)

Happy New Year! The dawn of a new year is here. A fresh start, as some people say. I’m excited to start working on some resolutions I have. We all have something we would like to improve or change. In coming posts I would like to revel some of these resolutions, I have for myself.

Last night we had our New Year’s Eve party with some friends. Not only did we celebrate New Years, but also my birthday! My wife and our friend Catie put together some snacks. We had some Chex Muddy Buddies, little smokies, Buffalo Wild Wings, chocolate fondue and a bunch of other goodies. The wings were gone fairly quickly. But everything else was munched on throughout the night.

We played a few board games. The guys and girls battled it out in a game of Battle of the Sexes. Believe it or not, the guys won. It’s very rare that we do. I mean, how are we suppose to know about “girly stuff.” Not to mention the questions pertaining to New Kids On the Block. We’re men. :P Anyways, Battle of the Sexes was very fun. We also played a quick round of Buzz Words. The girls beat us to a pulp. You could call it “Teamwork”. I would call it “Ganging Up.”

After that, the guys spent most of the night playing Age of Empires II. I can’t believe how a game that’s over 10 years old, can still be so much fun. I guess it never gets old. The mini-LAN party was setup on the kitchen table with three laptops. It looked like a geek-athon. But many little virtual lives were lost in our quest for each-other’s kings. Alright enough Geek’n.

The night ended shortly after watching the ball fall on Dick Clark’s New Years Eve. Everyone went home safely and all was well! Thanks to our friends Catie and David for hosting! I hope your New Years was as grand as ours!
