The Old Schoolhouse Antique & Craft Mall

Old Schoolhouse Ad

Today I took a side trip to Morehead, KY to meet my mom. We had a little bit of time to kill before she went back home. I remembered, while going to school at Morehead State, there was an antique mall in nearby Farmers, KY. So we decided to pay them a visit.

The store is housed in an old schoolhouse built in the early 1930′s. Now re-purposed as an antique and craft mall, the building houses thousands of items for sale. Mom and I had plenty to look at. She quickly pointed out some of things her parents and grandparents had while she was growing up.

For example, we found an old kitchen gadget used to chop up eggs. It reminds you of the infamous “Slap Chop” you see on tv. However it is not near as automated to use. We also found many of the dishes and bowels like my grandmother had. There were old toys and trains. Baseball cards, sports magazines and other sports memorabilia. There was stuff everywhere.

All of the items were placed on consignment by varies people in the surrounding area. Everything was tagged with the price and vendor number. Prices were very reasonable for what the items were. If I had extra room and cash, I would bring more home. It’s a good thing I don’t.

If you find yourself in the Morehead, KY area, be sure to check out The Old Schoolhouse Antique & Craft Mall. You’ll never know what you might find.

College Transcripts

Posted by Matt Kendrick on Tuesday, 14 July, 2009

How hard should it be to acquire an official copy of your college transcripts? I’m a firm believer in tight security of private information. But it should be a little easier to acquire your college transcripts. Our alma mater, Morehead State University, requires that you send a request form with payment. If you’re lucky enough, you will get your transcript in 2 to 4 weeks. You might as well make a trip to campus and visit the registrar yourself. However if you’re a current student or recent graduate, it’s a few clicks of the mouse and your credit card. Shouldn’t these services be available to every alumni of an institution?

There are a number of jobs that require a copy of your transcript to verify education status. I’m sure jobs, have been lost over pending transcripts. Not to mention late/miss enrollments to other institutions. Generally transcripts are sent to persons or organizations other than the person that requested it. Why waste extra time and postage? Granted, it’s not a life and death situation. But the delay does cause a lot of issues. Especially if the delay is related to getting lost in the pile of requests. Hopefully my wife will be able to get her transcript as soon as possible. Till then, remember: Life is hard, and you must pay taxes.
