Helpful Tips: Dairy Queen Blizzard No Drip Trick

Posted by Matt Kendrick on Sunday, 17 October, 2010

My wife and I are big fans of the Dairy Queen Blizzard. She likes the Chocolate Chip Cookie Jar Blizzard and I like the Reese’s Cup Blizzard. Some of you may be readers of my On Screen Cars blog. If you haven’t, let me que you in on something. I like cars! Especially clean cars. But sometimes the Happy DQ Blizzard World and clean cars collide in a bad way. A mess, a spill, a stain whatever ya wanta call it. It happens. It ticks me off.

For a while it was happening on a regular biases. Our beloved Dairy Queen can’t make non-drippy Blizzard to save their lives. It may not be their fault. Not sure if they were not making the stuff correctly or not. But they were  drippy. What happened to the quality control flip before they hand it to ya? But anyways. Every-time I pulled into my parking spot on the return trip. There it would be… A little spot on my seat, a mess on my hands or a cup holder full of Blizzard soup. Well long gone are those days. Thanks to my simple solution. A cup in a cup.

Say that ten times fast. One night I had enough. I was determined to find a better way to bring home the Blizzard. I grabbed two large plastic cups from our cabinet and hit the road. I got to the drive thru and placed my order. Paid my money. Then I dropped my blizzards into their cups. Then I headed home. The whole way I was smiling end-to-end. I pulled into my spot and looked down. This time without fear of my black cloth seats being covered or my cup holders being full. Yep it was bliss.

So there ya have it. Before ya hit the road on a B-l-i-z-z-a-r-d-r-u-n. Grab a cup to drop it in. You’ll be glad ya did. I’m sure your car will be a bit happier too. By the way did you know it’s the 25th Anniversary of the Blizzard? Maybe ya did. But did ya know about the kid’s toy that allows your kids to make their own Blizzards? Given my history, maybe I’ll just make my own? I’m a big kid right? Check it out below!

First Snow of Dec. 2009

Posted by Matt Kendrick on Saturday, 5 December, 2009

Usually close to this time of the year we get our first dose of snow. I’m excited. Yes, its tough to deal with sometime. But out our window it looks very peaceful. I’ve been waiting till the first snow to switch the snow plugin from leaves to snow. You may or may not be able to see the flakes. But it’s snowing on mattkendrick.com! Remember if it snows in December it’s not as worth eating. According to Lucy off the Peanuts (see quote below). Have a great snow day!

Patty: Try to catch snowflakes on your tongue. It’s fun.
Linus Van Pelt: Mmm. Needs sugar.
Lucy Van Pelt: It’s too early. I never eat December snowflakes. I always wait until January.
Linus Van Pelt: They sure look ripe to me.

Quotes from IMDB entry for Charlie Brown Christmas (1965).

Flash Games: Snow Day

Posted by Matt Kendrick on Sunday, 29 November, 2009

Winter/Holidays are closing in quickly. Thought I would throw up a winter/holiday theme flash game! Remember when you were a kid sitting by the radio waiting for your school to be called off for snow? I know I do. Sometimes I still listen for school closings. In this flash game you play a kid, longing for that perfect snow day! Your objective is to throw ice up into the clouds, to make them snow. Kinda like giving them a shot of turbo lax! Ok, bad reference. Unless you’ve seen Dumb and Dumber. But anyways. Very simple to play, hours to master. Move your character back and forth to aim, click/hold to set the power of your throw and release. Keep hitting clouds with ice and the snow will continue to fall. A meter on the side, tells you if you’re getting in danger of having to go school. Have fun!

WordPress: Snow Flakes Plug-in

Posted by Matt Kendrick on Monday, 2 November, 2009

Holiday Season/Winter is approaching fast. You can add some falling snow/leaves to your site to make it more festive! On this site I’m using a blogging software package called WordPress. Nicolas Kuttler a developer from Germany wrote a very easy to use plug-in to add falling snow to your WordPress blog. As you may have noticed I’m using the plug-in now with falling leaves (hasn’t started snowing yet).

Nicolas describes his plug-in:

Snowflakes falling down your blog! Inspired by the unforgettable xsnow. Install this and enjoy the snowfall! Great for times around Christmas and Christmas templates. The plugin comes with different snowflakes and a lot of possible settings. You should see the effect on this page.

You too, can easily add this plug-in to your WordPress blog through your admin console. In the plug-in search box, search for “snow”. The results will list this plug in as “Snow, balloons and more…”. Just install and activate. There ya have it. You can also change different settings for the plug-in as well. Settings include speed, direction, size and images to use.

If ya get a chance check out Nicolas’ other WordPress plug-ins at his website at: http://www.nkuttler.de

You can also learn more about this plug-in at: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/nksnow/

Flash Games: Snow Storm

Posted by Matt Kendrick on Wednesday, 13 May, 2009

Oh NO!, there’s been a snow storm! Here’s another flash game, that’s wasted at least a few hours of my life. Basic objective of the game is to clear a parking lot after a snow storm. Sound easy, right? Well it’s easy if you like puzzle games. You can pile snow up from at least three or four squares. After that the snow pile, becomes so large you can’t move it. The thing to keep in mind when painting floors or playing this game. Don’t paint yourself into a corner! That’s about all the hint, I’m gonna give ya on this one. Have fun! More cool stuff along the way tomorrow!
